According to The Athletic, Leeds United are preparing for offers for goalkeeper Illan Meslier this summer.
Manchester United have already been credited with an interest, while Barcelona have been linked in recent weeks, so you can see the caliber of clubs eyeing the Frenchman.
If Meslier is to leave Leeds this summer, they could be handed a huge sum of cap money.
The transfer fee is already out of control, and with Meslier being ranked as the second most valuable U23 goalkeeper on the planet right now, you have to imagine he’ll go for a hefty fee.
Look at Aaron Ramsdale, he was sold for £24million in the summer, and that was following two relegations. Meslier surpassed Ramsdale before his transfer to Arsenal, and he is even younger than the Englishman.
Meslier has been described as “superb” by David James, and at just 21 he could be a top keeper for the next 15 years.
Leeds could end up receiving a club record fee for their number one this summer. After all, Leeds’ record sale is still the £30million they’ve received from Manchester United for Rio Ferdinand since 2002.
If Barcelona and Manchester United see Meslier as their next long-term number one, it’s not unrealistic to suggest they’ll happily pay upwards of £30m for him.
Of course, it remains to be seen whether or not Leeds accept such an offer, but if Meslier is sold this summer, Leeds’ long-standing transfer record could be broken.
