DES MOINES, Iowa, June 11, 2021 / PRNewswire / – IdRamp, a leading provider of decentralized identity platforms for businesses in need of zero-trust passwordless security, announced today that it has joined the steering committee of Cardea, a Linux Foundation Public Health project. Cardea is an open source verifiable health record ecosystem that can be used by health authorities, governments, and industries to manage COVID-19 tests, vaccinations, and other health data. It provides a tamper-proof way for people to prove a health test or vaccination without revealing personal information.
IdRamp brings extensive experience in establishing a zero trust identity for various ecosystems that will help the Cardea project grow. IdRamp is also committed to helping Cardea achieve the goals of the recently announced Global COVID Certificate Network (GCCN). GCCN is a project to set up a global trust register that enables the interoperable exchange of COVID certificates between countries for a safe reopening. Cardea is one of the first projects to provide the necessary technologies for GCCN and to meet the technical recommendations of the Interoperability Blueprint of the Good Health Pass Collaborative (GHPC). GHPC is an industrial coalition that has defined principles and standards for COVID certificates, of which IdRamp is a founding member.
“The Cardea and GCCN projects are both excellent examples of breakthrough innovations that can take shape when companies and projects come together to solve real-world problems using open source tools that are available to all,” said Mike Vesey, IdRamp CEO. “We are excited to offer our experience in creating passwordless zero trust ecosystems that bring diverse ideas and skills to the Cardea community.”
IdRamp will take over the strategic leadership of Cardea and also support the aim of the project to increase the acceptance of decentralized identities. With deep roots in the open source community, IdRamp is also a founding member of the Trust over IP Foundation, member of the Good Health Pass Collaborative, steward of the Sovrin Foundation and node operator in the Indicio Network.
