Chelsea takeover finally complete as Todd Boehly era begins

Inter Milan are targeting Romelu Lukaku this summer in a mega-money loan deal.

Chelsea striker Lukaku, 29, is reportedly reluctant to leave Stamford Bridge just a year after joining the club in a club-record £97.5m deal. But Lukaku wants to know if he has a future under Thomas Tuchel after falling out of favor last season.

But his former club Inter are keen for a reunion, although the numbers are likely to be tantalizing as Chelsea are reportedly reluctant to take a huge financial hit on the Belgium star. After re-signing him for a record fee and putting him on a salary of £200,000-a-week plus with a hefty image rights package, it will be a tough deal and package for Inter.

Lukaku has never made a secret of his desire to return to Italy – and more specifically to Inter – and gave a bombshell interview late last year when he admitted he wanted to return in the future. This further strained relations with Tuchel who often struggled to welcome him into Chelsea’s line-up and preferred to use Kai Havertz as a false nine in the biggest games.

Inter have already made overtures to Lukaku’s representatives and reports in Italy suggest they have held talks. The figures being discussed would mean a whopping £20m loan fee for the first year with a fixed price tag of around £65m written into the deal for him to sign permanently in 2023.

Inter want Romelu Lukaku back, but he won’t come cheap

Lukaku would also potentially have to take a pay cut to complete the deal and it would also mean he effectively admits his return to Chelsea was a mistake and didn’t work out. New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is aiming for two marquee signings as a statement of intent and if they lose Lukaku they will surely have to buy another striker.

Wolfsburg have shown an interest in Timo Werner but the Germany international has turned the tide in recent months while Manchester United are interested in N’Golo Kante.
