Chelsea agree fee for 2006-born attacking midfielder

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Chelsea have a full deal in place to sign Tyler Dibling from Southampton.

The 16-year-old broke into the Saints U18 squad last season in the Premier League.

He has provided five goals and four assists in 22 appearances, proving his worth despite only turning 16 in March.

The last campaign also saw him make two appearances for the Under-23 side in Premier League 2, making headlines after netting a hat-trick against Newcastle in April.

With him also named on the first-team bench for a league game last season, it’s clear the Saints saw a big future for Dibling.

However, it looks like he will be taking his talents to west London as Romano claims Chelsea have agreed to a fee to add the youngster to their ranks.

He tweeted: “Chelsea are still working on young talent for the Academy and are now close to signing England U17 international Tyler Dibling from Southampton for £1.5million.

“Full deal in place, deal ready to go. Follows Zak Sturge who joins CFC from Brighton.

Sturge, 18, is set to join the Seagulls after impressing in PL2 last season.

The wonderkid was also reportedly wanted by rivals Tottenham Hotspur, but the Blues have retained interest in signing the England U18 international.

The pair will follow Omari Hutchinson as the next signing the Blues have made for the future, with the highly promising star crossing the capital to join Arsenal.

He is now set for a loan spell at Championship side Reading, with Blues fans hoping the time spent will see him break into the Royals first team, allowing him his first regular spell of first-team football. .

Meanwhile, Dibling is likely to join Chelsea’s U23 side, looking to prove his worth as a member of the PL2 squad.
